MATCH REPORT
Us v Them
8pm Wednesday 29th May 2002
University of Birmingham

Despite the fact that neither team had a name, six very plucky, but nevertheless out-of-practice, lads turned up to face our mighty forces. Some of Us were gracious enough to play for Them (to even-up the sides) and it was decided that we didn't need a Ref - mainly because no-one wanted not to play.

Supporter turn-out was a little disappointing. Laura, the girlfriend of Dave (Them), was there to start with but then had to go and meet some mates. Our side was held up by Adam's girlfriend Jo, who pleased the Management by coming armed with Stella and Skittles.

Play was stopped occasionally when all four available balls had been kicked out of the cage, but Jo earned her keep yet again by retrieving them. Even Big Al had to abandon her pitch-side vigilance when some kid tried to run off with one of our stray balls. But the match went well - there were no injuries and play was friendly, fair and clean.

As Old Joe struck nine, there was no doubt who had won, but there is some dispute over the final score! There were definitely three goals by the losing side (Them, plus three of Us) - all scored by our players! Estimates of the number of goals on the winning side (Us) vary between four and seven. I reckon it was at least five, probably six.

But all rivalry was quickly forgotten with an evening of beer and live rock at the Jug of Ale in Moseley. And some of Them even said they might come and practise with Us on Wednesday evenings. Joining the opposition? That's got to be a first!

All in all, a strange but successful first match. Nice one lads.
